Actual Halloween being in the middle of the week, it was a quiet night for us. Early in the evening, we went to the Budget Cinemas to see "Brave" a second time, and found it still very good. As we often do, we caught a few more nuances on second viewing.

At home, we lit our jack-o-lanterns, and warmed some spiced wine, inviting any friendly spirits nearby to have a whiff as the pot heated. We drank some of the wine, and poured out the rest as a libation for those who have gone on before us.

We walked in the dark to the Blasted Oak near by, a massive old tree bearing the scars of not one, but two past lightning strikes. The tree has lost its crown due to age, hollowness, and carpenter ants, but still soldiers on and bears new leaves every year, and acorns most years, so it's a useful image to commune with at this changing of the year. After visiting the tree, we went home for the night.
